About Fante Calgary
About Us
Fante people are an Akan ethnic group from the coastal regions of Ghana, renowned for their rich history, vibrant culture, and significant contributions to Ghana’s heritage. Known as skilled traders, the Fante historically played a central role in commerce and cultural exchange along the West African coast.
Their traditions are deeply rooted in storytelling, music, dance, and colorful festivals, such as the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, which celebrates unity and pays homage to ancestors. The Fante language, a dialect of Akan, is a cornerstone of their identity, preserving centuries of wisdom and oral history.
Today, the Fante people continue to embody resilience, creativity, and a strong sense of community, proudly sharing their heritage with the world.
